Meet the Artist Kim Mergen

I grew up in the small town of Avon, Minnesota and I have always had a love for the creative. What really started my journey with art was when my mom opened up a ceramic shop in 1975 and I found that I was most interested in creating unique, one-of-a-kind items. 

Following my artistic passions, I obtained degrees in floral, landscape and interior design and in 1990 I left the corporate world to start my own home décor company with a focus on new construction projects as well as remodels. I was able to immerse myself in the task of bringing my visions to life through painting, faux painting, installing wallpaper, wall murals and so much more. In 1998, I relocated to Fountain Hills, Arizona where I built and opened my own 5,000 square foot custom design center which opened so many more doors to creating unique designs for my clients. 

Even while nurturing my career in interior design, I had an underlying love for glass art. I purchased my first detail glass saw in 1990 but with a busy career as well as raising my two amazing sons along with my supportive husband, the saw remained in its box until 2019. With my sons grown and out on their own, I began to explore this new creative outlet and built a “she shed” in my backyard to serve as my art studio, starting with basic stain glass projects and eventually to large custom windows. In 2021, I added a glass fusing kiln and have been creating unique items combining various glass techniques, incorporating drift-wood and light elements to broaden the horizons of what I could create. I love taking my designs up a notch by recreating photographs into stain glass, creating bowls, pendants, flowers, baby gifts, sun catchers and painting on glass to give my clients truly special and innovative pieces. 

When life gets crazy, I retreat to my she shed sanctuary and create something new. Waking up every day knowing that the sky is the limit as to what I can create with glass has made my dream of un-leashing my creative side come true.
